DESCRIPTION:AbstractIn the last decade\, we have witnessed a drastic change
in the form factor of audio and vision technologies\, from heavy and grou
nded machines to lightweight devices that naturally fit our bodies. Howeve
r\, only recently\, haptic systems have started to be designed with wearab
ility in mind. The wearability of haptic systems enables novel forms of co
mmunication\, cooperation\, and integration between humans and machines. W
earable haptic interfaces are capable of communicating with the human wear
ers during their interaction with the environment they share\, in a natura
l and yet private way. In this talk\, Dr. Pacchierotti will present and di
scuss the role of cutaneous and kinesthetic technologies in developing (we
arable) haptic interfaces\, as well as their use in applications of roboti
c teleoperation and immersive VR/AR environments. A special attention will
be given to the design of wearable devices for the fingertips and to the
development of haptic rendering techniques. BiosketchClaudio Pacchierotti
is a tenured researcher of the CNRS at IRISA and Inria Rennes Bretagne Atl
antique\, Rennes\, France. He was previously a postdoctoral researcher of
the Dept. Advanced Robotics at the Italian Institute of Technology\, Genov
a\, Italy. Pacchierotti earned his Ph.D. degree at the University of Siena
in 2014. He visited the Penn Haptics Group at the University of Pennsylva
nia in 2014\, the Dept. Innovation in Mechanics and Management of the Univ
ersity of Padua in 2013\, and the Institute for Biomedical Technology and
Technical Medicine (MIRA) of the University of Twente in 2014. Pacchierott
i received the 2014 EuroHaptics Best PhD Thesis Award for the best doctora
l thesis in the field of haptics\, and the 2015 Meritorious Service Award
for his work as a Reviewer for the IEEE Transactions on Haptics. He has al
so been an Associate Editor for various haptic conferences as well as the
Publicity Chair for the 2017 IEEE World Haptics and 2018 Asia Haptics conf
erences. He is Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics and Secret
 ary of the Eurohaptics Society.
