gy and Bioinformatics\n\n\nMy research focuses on developing algorithms to
identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic interventions\, including d
rug repurposing\, within the framework of Network Medicine. This emerging
field has been dramatically changing the way we define human diseases: fro
m isolated entities to interconnected molecular processes. Notable algorit
hms I’ve developed in last 10 years include:\n\n\n1.     SWIM (SWItch Mine
 r)\, a network-based tool for identifying potential biomarkers [1\,4\,6\,7
\,9\,10]. This methodology has gained widespread recognition within the sc
ientific community thanks to the encouraging results achieved when applied
to glioblastoma [9]\, leading to the identification of FOSL1 as a possibl
e biomarker\, which promotes the differentiation of cancer stem-like cells
by repressing key transcription factors responsible for the stem-like phe
notype. These findings have been experimentally validated [doi.org/10.1038
 /s41598-021-94072-0]\n\n\n2.     SPINNAKER (SPongeINteractionNetworkmAKER)
\, a network-based tool for identifying putative competing endogenous RNA
(ceRNA) interactions [2]. This methodology has aroused a broad acknowledge
ment within the scientific community thanks to the encouraging results ach
ieved when applied to breast invasive carcinoma\, leading to the identific
ation of PVT1\, a long non-coding RNA functioning as ceRNA for the miR-200
  family.\n\n\n3.     SAveRUNNER (Searching off-lAbel dRUg aNd NEtwoRk)\, a
network-based algorithm for drug repurposing [5] and side-effect estimati
on [3]. This methodology has been highly successful and well-received by t
he international scientific community thanks to the encouraging results ac
hieved when applied to COVID-19\, leading to the identification of a list
of repurposable drugs including some of the most rumoured off-label drugs\
 , like: ACE-inhibitors\, monoclonal antibodies (e.g.\, anti-IFNγ\, anti-TN
 Fα\, anti-IL12\, anti-IL1β\, anti-IL6)\, and thrombin inhibitors.\n\n\n4.
MIENTURNET (MicroRNA ENrichment TURned NETwork) is an easy-to-use web
tool that tackles the problem of prioritizing miRNA-target interactions by
performing a statistical analysis followed by a fully featured network-ba
sed visualization and analysis [8]. This tool\, essential for understandin
g miRNA regulatory mechanisms\, has been widely adopted\, with over 200 ci
tations (in SCOPUS) since 2019.\n\n\nkeywords: \n\nBioengineering for Mole
